Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the bloggers over at the Broke and the Bookish. Book bloggers from all around create lists based on the chosen topics, and post links to the host blog to share our love of books. This week’s official topic is “Top Ten Books I Wish Had Sequels.” Well, I’m a big advocate for standalone books, so I had nothing much to say on that topic. What I need, though, is a swift kick in the butt to finish all of the books I started this summer. Maybe posting publicly will give me the accountability I need to stop staring at the ceiling and contemplating my life and start FINISHING MY STACK OF BOOKS so I can be ready for fall. Here’s what’s sitting on my TBF shelf:
Top Ten Books I Need to Finish Before School Starts
[This is a real problem.]
Starting with 5 books I already started:
1.) A Game of Trones by George R.R. Martin – I had to ditch my copy in Portugal because I had too much stuff in my backpack.
2.) The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams – Since I own this book at home, I ditched my copy in Ireland.
3.) Inferno by Dan Brown– I’ve only got about 100 pages to go. I started it while in Florence and want to finish while Florence and Venice are still fresh in my brain.
4.) The Program by Suzanne Young – This is an audiobook, and I just haven’t had much time alone for listening to books. But now that I have my morning routine and commute back, that should change.
5.) Curtsies & Conspiracies by Gail Carriger – Maybe I’m not finding it as fabulous as the first book? I’m going to blame it on my summer reading slump.
…and then 5 books I said I would read and never did:
6.) Neither Here Nor There: Travels in Europe by Bill Bryson – I spent my time on trains listening to podcasts about the locations I was about to visit, rather than listening to this book (as was my intention). I should read it now while my own journey across Europe is still fresh in my head.
7.) The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle – Downloaded it. Now need to listen to it.
8.) Destroy Me by Tahereh Mafi – Warner. Warner Warner Warner. (I also bought Unravel Me, but wanted to read this novella first. And I didn’t even like Shatter Me, so I don’t know why I feel compelled to keep reading?)
9.) The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey – I passed up the ARC, and immediately regretted doing so after reading everyone else’s reviews.
10.) Any other book sitting on my Kindle/Nook/Audible/Overdrive/iTunes Apps – There are 11 unread ARCs on my Kindle App, 30 unread books purchased on my Nook (YIKES!), and at least 5 unread audiobooks across the other apps. The goal this summer was to make a dent in those, but it didn’t really happen. Any progress there would be good progress.
What books do you need to finish before the end of summer?
