Top Ten Series I’d Like to Start But Haven’t Yet
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the bloggers over at the Broke and the Bookish. Book bloggers from all around create lists based on the chosen topics, and post links to the host blog to share our love of books. I was very excited when I saw this week’s topics, as I love making plans to read things. I may not ACTUALLY ever get to some of these, but I’d certainly like to try:
Top Ten Series I’d Like to Start But Haven’t Yet
[TBRs for the win!]
1.) The Lunar Chronicles by Marisa Meyer – I own Cinder, IN HARDCOVER, and haven’t been able to touch it yet. Le sigh.
2.) The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare – Bought the first book on my Kindle app. Want to read it, but I never seem to be in the right mood.
3.) Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead – It’s a boarding school series, and apparently quite a good one. I’m not much a fan of vampires and whatnot, but I still want to give this series a try.
4.) Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor – Another one that I have (I think I have the e-book AND the audio book) and have’t read. Since I’m going to Prague this summer (yes, for real!) I think I need to read it sooner rather than later.
5.) Graceling by Kristen Cashore – I bought the audio book for Graceling THREE YEARS AGO. But I tried it and gave up one hour in. I’ve always meant to try again.
6.) The Chemical Garden by Lauren DeStanfano – I’ve heard the series compared to The Handmaid’s Tale, which piqued my interest. Now this one I’ve actually been good with and haven’t bought it yet — I’m waiting to buy Wither when I’m actually committed to reading it right then.
7.) The Chaos Walking Trilogy by Patrick Ness– I know I’ll like it, and own The Knife of Never Letting Go on my Nook app, but I’m waiting when I have time to potentially read the whole series. I have a feeling I’ll start and not want to stop.
8.) Legend by Marie Lu – Bought it with Cinder in HARDCOVER and it’s gathering dust on the shelf where I house my physical TBR books. It’s dystopian, what’s taking me so long?!
9.) Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi – I won the e-book and desperately want to read it, because I hear it’s beautifully written.
10.) Fifty Shades by EL James – …Just so I can snark on it. ‘Cause that’s how I roll!
In my defense, I did buy a lot of these because they are on my long-term TBR list and I found them on sale or won them. I bought them knowing that I wouldn’t get to them right away, and only paid $1.99. I only do this maybe once a month, so the pile is manageable. So based on this list, it is apparent that I need to challenge myself to read some of the books I already own, rather than getting dazzled by ARCs 24/7. While I love reading the newest books, I’m missing out on some good stuff in the process. I’m thinking a summer mini-challenge is in my future…

Have heard good things about Daughter of Smoke and Bone, that one makes my list as well! I read the Mortal Instruments as a young teen and really enjoyed them – they’re light and the characters are enjoyable. Plus, the first film is on it’s way now’s a good time to give them a go.
Daughter of Smoke and Bone is exceptional; in an entirely different league to the others. Fifty Shades is so badly written that not even the promise of seeing the pathetic protagonist get beaten to a pulp could convince me to persevere beyond the first few chapters.
My coworker was so into 50 shades of grey that she read on her Kindle, she bumps into file cabinets, can’t hear you when you call her name and ignores her work. I kidded her and told her she’s reading soft porn. She actually tries to defend it and says it really has a story line. Snark, snark, snark…
The Mortal Instruments series is SO good. Definitely worth reading. Good luck making it through your list!
Mortal instruments is worth a read (although I have only read the first trilogy not the two additions)
And vampire academy is amazing… Anything by Richelle mead is amazing to be fair.
I LOVED Marisa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles and would highly recommend reading them. The way she has taken the old fairy tales and morphed them is absolutely incredible. Cinderella as a cyborg? Little Red Riding Hood as a kick-ass heroine? Hard to beat that. Plus, I think Meyer constructs a nice plot line and writes an engaging tale that is easy to be immersed in.
The Vampire Academy is really good, definitely a unique vampire story! Good luck with your list!
Daughter of Smoke and Bone will blow you away! Graceling is also a favorite of mine, and Cinder is so innovative and fresh. As for the Mortal Instruments series, glad to see I’m not the only one who haven’t read it yet!
A few of these series are ones I am also yet to start. Just picked up Cinder today, not quick hooked on it yet but giving it a chance
I had a friend who read all of the 50 shades series so that when people say “but did you actually *read* the series?” when she snarks about it she can tell them she did.
She also wrote an awesome review for it on Goodreads. That book has the *best* reviews, I swear.
Mortal Instruments are SO good. Well 1-3, 5 are good. 4 annoyed the crud out of me.
LOVE your list. But now my TBR pile grows again…
I have to finish reading Graceling. It’s been a fun read so far but work and school messed up my reading schedule. Now, I’m finally getting back into the swing of things.
“Which series are on your TBR list?”
Am I supposed to choose from this list or can I choose any book? From this list: Graceling and Legend. Other books: Seven Wonders Book 1: The Colossus Rises by Peter Lerangis.
So many of these are on my list too – I’m glad I’m not alone, it always makes me sad to think I’m missing out on a great series. But… so little time, so many series! Also, I’d LOVE to hear the Shades snark, bring on the snark!
The Daughter of Smoke and Bone series and the Graceling world ones are both fantastic and highly recommended. I also need to read Chaos Walking and Under the Never Sky and The Chemical Garden – I had no idea the final series has been compared to The Handmaid’s Tale. I enjoyed Atwood’s dystopian, so perhaps I should move this series higher up on my TBR. Hope you get to some of them soon!
My Top Ten Tuesday
I loved Cinder!! I can’t wait to read Scarlet!
I was really skeptical about Vampire Academy when I started it, but I like how Richelle Mead changed a lot of the “rules” about vampire culture and whatnot. I felt like it was pretty interesting and a little refreshing! I really hope you like that one
I feel like you’d enjoy Graceling and I really liked The Chemical Garden as well!
Great list! Happy reading!!
I highly recommend reading the vampire academy series so much better then traditional vampire series, SO GOOD Richelle Mead is great author.
I definitely recommend Cinder and Graceling- I think you’ll really enjoy both of them! I’m glad I’m not the only one who hasn’t read Daughter Of Smoke And Bone and Under The Never Sky!
I’ve read a wee wee wee bit of city of Bones, it’s ok, nothing too flash. I agree re: Fifty Shades, I feel a little devilish in my snarky-ness since I haven’t read the book yet but how to find the time to read something you know is going to be relatively poorly written?
Ow, it’d be interesting to read your review to 50 shades
I’ve been hearing good things about Brandon Sanderson’s “Mistborn” series, so that’s on my TBR list.
The Lunar Chronicles and Under the Never Sky are fabulous and should be read whenever you get a chance, and anything by Richelle Mead is amazing. Try the Succubus Revealed series, it’s awesome! I wasn’t a huge fan of Graceling or Legend, but I liked Legend a little bit more.
Also, Daughter of Smoke & Bone is probably one of my top series ever and I seriously can’t recommend it enough, as another comment said, “It’s in a league of it’s own!”
And, I did just finish 50 Shades. It’s terrible. Like, horrible terrible. I don’t understand the appeal in the slightest. You might just do yourself a favor and skip it all together!
Gosh, half the series on your list are my factories! Vampire Academy is my favorite series of all time and I can promise that even if you aren’t into vampires, you will love it. I also love the Lunar Chronicles with all my heart, it’s something refreshingly different.
Superb blog here! Also your website loads up very quick! What web host are you currently using? Can I get your affiliate link to your host? I want my website loaded up as rapidly as yours lol
