Top Ten Bookish Goals for 2013

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the bloggers over at the Broke and the Bookish. Book bloggers from all around create lists based on the chosen topics, and post links to the host blog to share our love of books. This week we are setting goals for our 2013 bookish lives. Reading goals, blogging goals, buying goals, reviewing goals…and more. Here’s what I hope to accomplish this year:
Top Ten Bookish Goals for 2013
[Not resolutions. Goals.]
1.) Read 80 books. – I read 75 last year, so I’m going to amp it up a tiny notch this year.
2.) Read 10 debuts. – I’ve never specifically participated in the debut challenge, but it sounds like a fun way to discover some new authors and great books.
3.) Start reviewing books I read before I started this blog. – I’ve always wanted a list of books I’ve read, and I often wish I had reviews of older titles that I could point back to in newer reviews. I think I’m going to start that project in 2013.
4.) Give myself more time to read before bed. – I sleep better when I read for 30-45 minutes before bed, and I also read more. Win-win.
5.) Write more opinion posts. – I have a list of topics I’d like to write posts on, and I haven’t written one of these types of posts in many months.
6.) Buy more books.– Review copies are lovely, but sometimes I just need to shell out money and buy books because I really want to read the books. I feel like I’m not contributing financially to the book industry anymore. My goal would be to go to the brick and mortar book store and buy physical books, because I’d hate to see them ever go out of business.
7.) Propose a bookish presentation for a national conference. – Time to start combining my hobby and my career for realz.
8.) Join a book club. – There’s a Forever Young Adult book club that meets near me, so I think it’s time to finally join a book club. I’ve been waiting years to find people with similar reading taste who will actually follow through!
9.) Read the 2014 Printz winner – Obviously I won’t know if I accomplish this until January 2014, but it’s always been my goal to have them pick a book I’ve already read and loved so I can be all like, “Yeah, I read that before it was cool.” (I will keep making this goal until it actually happens!)
10.) Participate in something bloggy and social. – A conference, BEA, a meet-up…something outside of my hometown. If anyone has any recommendations for this, let me know!
What are your bookish goals for 2013?

Love your list. I agree with #6. I need to do that also. Feel free to come by and View My TTT
I want to do a book club too! I was thinking of starting an online and or local one we’ll see. And I am totally addicted to reading before bed. It helps me to shut my brain off. Love your goals I would love to go to a conferencey thing too that would awesome

I love your #4. I’m going to try to do the same myself, because my work schedule means reading during the week really doesn’t happen as much as it needs to. And I’m also participating in the DAC this year!
My TTT post
Opinion posts are great ways to start discussion, but they’re hard to know where to start! I know I’d love to research and present some sort of opinion. I see a lot on New Adult fiction. They’re fun to comment for! Great resolutions! Feel free to check out my TTT post.
I feel like I have a lot of goals in common with you. Good luck with completing your goals for 2013!
OK, you’ve set the bar really high for yourself! What do you do besides read?? Smile.
I feel totally overwhelmed by your list! I have a list of about 40 books to read, and I am wondering if I will ever get through them. Thankfully JKR is not releasing a book this year, else that would be one more for me to read.
I want to review more books, because I find it generates many discussions, and that is partly why I blog.
I want to reread many books I read while growing up, because I find I have forgotten many of them because I used to speed read them.
I am also thinking of starting a second blog on a particular subject, but stil wondering what subject that will be. I seem to find so many subjects interesting.
Check out no.7 on my list http://booksaremyfavouriteandbest.wordpress.com/ Tara – I think it would knock off some of your goals quite nicely
lucky you! i barely get to find good books to read here. end up re-reading old books over n over again!
I wish I could buy more books! And agreed with #10

Buy more books is awesome! I want more books!

I really like your list and have a few similar myself or should have a go at too. Reading before going to sleep is great and I really should do it more often, I always wait till too late and then it’s too late to start. Tanks for sharing your list
Super goals! You definitely should join the FYA book club! I started one a few months ago and it’s been tons of fun! Definitely a great way to branch out and meet some other readers. I really like the idea of giving yourself time to read before bed. I should do this every night; maybe I’d sleep better/actually finish books faster! Good luck on your goals!
I love that you have supporting bookshops and reading debut authors on your list – very noble resolutions! I hope you find a nice book group and good luck with all the other goals.

Luckily I have a Kindle Fire, so I can read in bed while my husband sleeps without having to turn on (and wake him up) a light or have him leave one on. I try to keep my kindle reading to bedtime, but…sometimes the book I’m reading is just so good I read it all the time.
These are terrific goals. I would love for you to stop by to check out my Top Ten. I hope to do more literary events this year.
I like the idea of setting aside more time before bed to read. I usually read before going to sleep, but am not always good about giving myself real time to do it. I wish I could remember all the books I’ve read to do an archive of books before the blog, but I think I’d be pretty hopeless at that– I hope yours works out well!
Yay I’m doing the DAC this year too! Excited for it. All of your goals are great and sound like things I should be doing as well. I am the same way about reading before bed. And I also would love to participate in a book club. The bookish presentation sounds really cool – I hope you’re able to do that! Good luck on your 2013 goals!
Wow, 80 books is so many! Numbers 2-6 are some that I need to do too, though I havent thought about some of them yet. Great list! Love it! Happy 2013, and good luck!
My Goals for 2013
The DAC 2013 is so much fun! It’s a great way to motivate yourself to read debuts. Also, reviewing books read before the blogging years is a good idea.
