It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?
Believe it or not, the spring semester starts up again in just TWO DAYS. I’ve read so many good books over my month off, finishing at least a book a day and scheduling tons of posts. I think I’m scheduled through March! But I’m still reading some great books in these last few days. I’m in various stages of each.
Reading Update:
Today is January 7.
I have read 11 books toward my goal of 80 for 2013. I need to read 69 more books to reach my goal! At this point it sounds very intimidating, since I read waaaaaay more books over Christmas break than any other time during the year.
Currently Reading:
The Madman’s Daughter by Megan Shephard — Reading at the breakfast table. It’s The Island of Dr. Moreau reworked (historical fiction focused on Dr. Moreau’s daughter, who has found him on the island).
The Panem Companion by V. Arrow – Reading slowly, one essay at a time, here and there.
Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers — Audio book in the car. Assassin nuns.
Pivot Point by Kasie West — Reading before bed. A girl has the ability to look into the future and see both outcomes of decisions.

Aside from your blog, I’m reading Tender is the Night and The Essential Guide to Getting Your Book Published. I loved The Great Gatzby, so I thought I might try this one. So far, so good.
I love that you said, “Aside from your blog.” Made me think about how much we read every week that isn’t even a book! I just finished my re-read of The Great Gatsby, and I think my review will be posted next week. I’ve not read any of his other novels, so I’m interested in what you think of that one.
Thanks! I know what you mean. A lot of my time is soaked up reading articles and blogs.
Ooh, Grave Mercy! Loved that one. Hope you’re enjoying it. I have both Pivot Point and The Madman’s Daughter… Need to get on them ASAP! I’m reading Kill Me Softly right now… probably need to start another one since that’s currently sitting on my dining room table!
I’m almost done with Madman’s Daughter, and it’s sucked me in. I honestly don’t know how it’s going to end! I just started Pivot Point, but so far so good!
I’m having a hard time getting into Grave Mercy, though, and I think it’s the format. It’s reading very slow as an audio book. However, I’m only a few hours in.
I do like the way you read different books at different times in different formats. Do lots of people do that? I am dipping into Robert Macfarlane’s The old ways – stories about walks; Alison Pick’s Far to go – for a reading group but it is about Kindertransportation so depressing and is taking me ages; The Dog Stars by Peter Heller – end of world almost diary form – really interesting, highly recommended.
GASP! The Madman’s Daughter!! I have been DYING to read that. Good to see that you’re enjoying it.
I just finished Crown of Embers, which I liked but didn’t LOVE like I did with The Girl of Fire and Thorns. I’m fully expecting Book 3 of that series to blow it out of the water, though. And now, I’m reading Radical by David Platt and starting The Book of Blood and Shadow (that’s right! I got my hands on itt!).
I really want Madman’s Daughter and Grave Mercy!
Pivot Point sounds interesting… I might have to track it down. I’m currently reading Time Between Us, which isn’t bad, but I don’t think I’m cut out to ever love teen romance so it’s not really wowing me, but is interesting enough that I don’t want to not finish it. I’m also in the middle of a book called Pregnancy, Childbirth and the Newborn, which is actually quite informative and helpful, but I find I read non-fiction at a snail’s pace even when I care about the topic!
Currently? The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (paper book), The Complete Monster Exchange Program (Kindle; Short stories about monsters in high school), and The Scorpio Races (Kindle).
Goodreads also says I’m reading The Many Lives of Lilith Lane (Kindle and paper copy, I’ve switched from the Kindle to rereading the book in the paper copy, but I haven’t read much yet) and a Scott Nicholson boxed set that I haven’t touched in about a month.
Insurgent, just finished Perks of Being a Wallflower, and about to start reading textbooks.
I liked The Madman’s Daughter, and Grave Mercy. Good luck with the start of the semester!
What a list you’ve got there! I mean, who wouldn’t want to read about assassin nuns? I’ve also got my eye on the Panem Companion…I just have to get my hands on a copy.
I’m currently catching up with the 39 clues series. It’s technically written for middle schoolers, but the mystery is so intriguing! 39 Clues that lead to ultimate power? You’ve got me curious! I’m actually past the clue hunt, but I must say that the continuation of the story is just as riveting!
Glad that you’re getting to your goal, Tara. Wow, 11 books already! I’m only two in, and those were both graphic novels, haha!
